SR, LR or DAC?
10GBASE-SR runs 850 nm over multimode and covers up to about 300 m, which suits most in-building and rack-to-rack links. 10GBASE-LR runs 1310 nm over single-mode and reaches 10 km, which is what campus and metro links need. If the two switches are in the same rack, a DAC cable is cheaper than two optics and a patch lead.
